What to look for in a venue
Most wedding ceremony and reception venues are booked out 12 months in advance, so if you have a date in mind – get a move on. Be flexible with the dates, that way you won’t be disappointed.
I highly recommend you make an appointment to see the events coordinator at the venue. Speaking with the person you will be dealing with through the whole wedding process is very important and also gives you a feel on whether you feel comfortable with the venue and coordinator.
Ask heaps of questions: Even if you think it may be silly.
© What events will be held at the venue during your ceremony/reception?
© Outside/Garden ceremony – is there a wet weather plan?
© Do you get sole use of the function room?
© How many weddings are performed at the venue on the date you enquire (nothing worse than seeing another bride running around on the same day as you)
© Parking for guests
© Accommodation for guests
© Maximum capacity of the room
© How many guests per table
© Kids prices and how many high chairs are available (without getting them hired in)
© Size of the dance floor (if you have 100 guests and the dance floor only accommodates 20 where are the rest of the guests going to dance?)
© Can you throw rose petals at ceremony?
© Smoking areas
© Toilets-are they located close to the function room?
I could go on and on and on…so don’t think it’s a silly questions just ask!
This is a great time to ask all the simple and difficult questions while you have the coordinators full attention. What are they does and don’ts at the venue – can we arrive in a helicopter, horse and carriage, boat, fire works?
If you like the venue but want to checkout a few more before you make your decision ask the
Coordinators if the date you want is available and if you can tentatively book the date while you check out the rest of the venues on your list.
Once you have made a decision on the venue book and pay your deposit to confirm the date.
© REMEMBER to call the other venues you have tentatively booked and cancel them.
