Theme Your Wedding

Article Posted: 2 October 2008

Theming your wedding is becoming more and more popular.  Gone are the days when a wedding ceremony and reception was canapés, dinner and sparkling wine.  The whole event is followed throught from the invitations down the guests participating in the theme by dressing in costume.

Firstly, pick a theme. Something which reflects your personality.  Don't do a Bollywood theme if you don't like Curry Or a Halloween theme and don't like witches.

These themes have been popular for years and still going great.

Beach – Ceremony and reception on or by the beach. Ladies could wear frangipani's, Men wear Hawaiian shirts, lots of sand, shells, seafood, chardonnay and the beach boys.

Romantic – Traditional church ceremony with bells, doves, and lots of flowers.  Your Reception would follow with candles, soft colour theme throughout the room and Barry White (for those of you who don't know who Barry White is ask your mum)

Moroccan – Lots of colour, drums, big fluffy pillows, large comfy lounges, candles and lanterns.  Ideal theme for the Cocktail Wedding. Get your guest to dress up in traditional caftans and saris.

Hollywood – Have a favourite movie?  Theme your reception around the movie. Play it during dinner on a big screen. Have your guests dress up as their favourite character.  Have movie names as your table numbers eg:  table 1 – Casablanca, table 2 – Singing in the Rain, table 3 - Gone with the wind

Be creative and look outside the square.  Weddings are a celebration and time to have fun.
