Article Posted: 16 October 2010

Theme weddings are becoming more and more popular.  Gone are the days when a wedding ceremony and reception was canapés, dinner and sparkling wine.  The whole event is followed thought down to the food, wine, decorations, even live entertainment. Even guests are asked to participate in the theme by dressing in costume.

How to pick a theme:

First you need to pick the theme. Pick a theme which reflects your personality.  Don't do a Hollywood theme if you don't like being in the lime light. Or Halloween theme and you hate to wear black.  Here are some ideas

Beach – Ceremony and reception on or by the beach. Guests could wear a frangipani ley, sand, shells, seafood, chardonnay and the beach boys.

Romantic – Traditional church ceremony with bells, doves, and lots of flowers.  Reception to follow with candles, soft colour theme throughout the room and Barry White (for those of you who don't know who Barry White is ask your mum)

Moroccan – Lots of colour, drums, big fluffy pillows, large comfy lounges, candles and lanterns.  Get your guest to dress up in traditional caftans and saris.  And most of all, all the food you can eat with your hands.

Hollywood – Have a favourite movie, Theme your reception around the movie. Play it during dinner on a big screen. Have someone dress up as your favourite character or comedian and have them part of the entertainment.  Have movies names as your table numbers eg:  table 1 – Casablanca, table 2 – Singing in the Rain, table 3 - Gone with the wind

Whatever you decided to have at your wedding be creative and look outside the square.  Weddings are a celebration and time to have fun.

And as always remember - Your Wedding is "All About YOU"
